1. Rental Requirements
To rent a vehicle from Coco Tuk Tuk Rental, you must be at least 21 years old and possess a valid international or home country driving license. It is illegal to drive a three-wheeler in Sri Lanka without a locally endorsed temporary driving license, which we can assist in obtaining for a fee of $35.
2. Deposit & Payment
A non-refundable deposit of $20 USD is required to secure your booking via the PayHere payment gateway. The remaining balance must be paid upon vehicle handover in either USD, EUR, or LKR. A separate security deposit of $150 (cash or card hold) is required upon vehicle handover and will be fully refunded upon safe return of the vehicle.
3. Insurance & Liability
All Coco Tuk Tuks are covered by comprehensive rental insurance. However, the renter is liable for the first $150 of any damage (the excess/deductible). If the damage exceeds $150, our insurance covers the rest. This insurance does NOT cover damage caused by driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs, or driving off-road (e.g., inside National Parks).
4. Breakdowns & Support
We provide 24/7 on-island breakdown assistance. If the breakdown is due to a mechanical failure, we will cover the repair costs and, if necessary, provide a replacement vehicle. If the breakdown is due to renter negligence (e.g., running out of fuel, lost keys, flat battery due to leaving lights on), the renter is responsible for the call-out fee and repair costs.
5. Driving Restrictions
Renters are strictly prohibited from driving the Tuk Tuks on expressways (highways) or inside National Parks (such as Yala or Udawalawe). Driving on beaches or submerged roads is also strictly prohibited and will void your insurance.
